Over the years, the idea of ‘designing rather than making’ has become more of a belief than a thought for me. Everything we think of and act upon has some scope of design, scope of applying some design philosophy and creativity etc. We need to think as an artist who will take care of the finer details like colors, layout, appeal, user experience, simplicity/complexity, message, perceptions and so on.

Some examples include:

  • The Powerpoint slides you make – their layout, colors, organizations, messaging etc.
  • Presentation to an audience – storytelling, structure, appeal, message, articulation etc.
  • Writing your blog or as simple thing as an email
  • Worker assembling a system of components
  • Thinking a new idea or brainstorming one with the team

All of these situations have the scope for applying design thinking. Applying your creativity to make it a bit better than the rest, than the past. Caring for the ends which we often let loose. Going that extra mile even when the rewards may not be that clear.
