I vividly remember one of my previous colleague. She used to sit in the US office and I was based in India. The first thing which comes to my mind when I remember her is our phone meetings for our projects. She had her own unique style of communication. She used to speak with just the right voice modulation and an awesome articulation. Moreover, she used to intersperse her conversation with those ‘subtle laughs’. Be it whatever topic, she had that ability to keep the atmosphere light by carefully crafting her words and making it just that humorous. Her grin was subtle but audible, which is necessary on a phone conversation. Whatever mood I was in, I used to get drawn into a cheerful mood of conversation.

Isn’t it something which we all should think about and try to follow in our phone conversations, for more engagement and agreement?

A phone conversation is far less impersonal than a face to face one. So one’s body language, smile or other facial expressions are not conveyed unless one finds a way out. Making a conscious effort to communicate yourself fully does go a long way in making that conversation much more friendly. The listener will be much more agreeable to listen to you at the least and agree with your point of view.
