I read a wonderful article by Mr. C B  Bhave recently. Would strongly recommend all of you to read it once.

He was narrating his experiences and thoughts while building NSDL – a depository for keeping share ownership records electronically and for facilitating easy settlements, into a world class institution.

I liked his thoughts on our ‘attitude towards change‘:

It appears to me that our resistance to change is on account of our being a risk averse society. We are quick to agree that the existing state of affairs in a given area is no good, but each suggestion for change meets with such a multitude of objections that the status quo appears to be the best option. We need to develop tolerance for failure. By trying to keep away from failure, we miss out on valuable learning. We overdo this to an extent that we lose faith in ourselves. We persuade others as well to lose faith in us.

How true that is for most of us,  be it in organizations or outside. We tend to crib but not act. We tend to criticize but not support. We tend to advise but not execute. We tend to push but don’t take risks.

Is it time to introspect and be a little more aware of how we think and act?
