Education sector is one sector where everyone now seems to be concerned about the traditional methods of education. For example, teaching in a classroom through teachers, assignments, homework etc. which, in most of the cases, is like a one way traffic from teacher to student. The result can be temporary, uninteresting and less purposeful learning, A lot of innovation has started happening in this sector around improving this model to a new collaborative yet customized learning model.
The focus now is on learning, rather than teaching. Catering to the specific needs of different students, what they want to learn, at a customized pace and through interactive content.
More over, the emphasis is now on collaborative learning where everyone in the classroom is a learner, be it a teacher, or the students and they learn collectively through real life cases, simulations and tools.
Initiatives like Khan Academy and free courses (MOOCs) run by Coursera address some of the needs of this new learning model. Technology is definitely playing a key role in making this effort feasible and accessible to learners across geographies and time zones. Still, the need of the hour is to promote those start-ups who have the right vision, can put in right efforts and focus in providing that awesome collaborative learning experience to the interested (free or monetized) everywhere.
