Many of us create some awesome content online in the form of blog posts, articles, videos, podcasts, info-graphics, whitepapers etc. And we try to get the maximum views possible for our content. Isn’t it feels good if people read our content, like it, comment on it or provide their feedback? Some of us even earn a good sum out of building a great online image. So, what are some of the secrets of getting yourself noticed amongst a few billions out there on internet?
Well, in this blog post, let me just provide you only one tip but it is a very useful one to get noticed online.
Always, and I mean always, TAG your content. Provide suitable tags for your content. For example, some sample tags for this blog post can be tags, social media, content, marketing, brand image etc. Once you tag your content, social media miners, internet searches, pattern finders etc. can reach to your content more easily through your tags.
Some general guidelines on tagging include:
- Tags are generally words/keywords which may describe your content to an extent, they may define the purpose of it, or they can be the keywords which your target audience might be searching for. The ‘audience keywords’ are frequently the ones which authors miss out while tagging their content. For example, for this post, I would include marketing and brand image in this post though they may not have directly figured in this post (now they have since I have mentioned them). Think from the end reader perspective while tagging your content – who are most likely to like your content?
- Include popular keywords, most commonly spoken/used, common English (or other applicable language) in your tags. People are most likely to search these common keywords more when they search for specific themes.
- Include as many tags as you can but at the same time please do not do it just for the sake of doing it. The overarching principles of relevance and audience should always be adhered to.
Inculcate this best practice and you will see that your awesome content will slowly start getting its due.
