A thing which we are supposed to do day and night is to ‘solve the problem’ at hand.

Most of the times, I think we end up approaching the problem differently in a sub optimal way leading to sub optimal solutions and wastage of precious time, effort and other resources.

We often act without a thorough understanding of the problem to be solved, leading towards solving the wrong problem. Accurate judgment is required to identify and define the problem. We often err in three ways:

(a) defining the problem in terms of a proposed solution,

(b) missing a bigger problem, or

(c) diagnosing the problem in terms of its symptoms.

Our goal, instead, should be to solve the problem not just eliminate its temporary symptoms. It involves defining it properly, giving initial time to plan the solution and the processes behind and then allocating resources to solve it the chosen way.
